Fall Fishing

The warm water has gone and it's that time of year when you put the bass gear away and break out the fly rod. I do hope to do some bass fishing this winter but I'm getting as much fly fishing in as I can before the ice hits.

A few months ago to kick off the cooler weather, Ryan, Rory and I all went down to Boulder Utah to do some fishing at the boulder mountains. The weather didn't cooperate and the wind was a little much up in the higher elvations but we did get in some fishing at Lilly Lake and Lower Bowns produced some nice rainbows.

We stayed at a cool little lodge down there and rented a room that had 2 bunk beds. The lodge also had a community bathroom with a shower which was nice because we could take a shower after a long day of fishing and a long night by the fire.

Some of the local fishing has been great as well. Ryan and I went to Strawberry a few weeks ago and did alright. It was really cold but the fish were biting.

I also was able to get away by myself the other night after work for some fishing at Huntington Res. The fishing was on fire and the all of the fish were a decent size.

Summer Fishing

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
So far the fishing this summer has been almost perfect. I have been able to catch 2 species of fish that I've never caught before and the fishing has been fast! I don't think any of us can complain because we've all been catching plenty of big fish.

A lot of the local ponds have been paying off pretty well. Here are some bass caught this summer at some of the community ponds in the area.

We've also caught some frogs in the process! These guys are almost as agressive as the fish!

A couple weeks ago Dan and I went out with some guys from the Freeform crew to try out luck at Willard for the Wipers. We both caught 1 small Wiper each and nothing worth taking a picture of but the scenery was killer.

A couple months back I went to Pineview for my first time. Ryan was able to get into all the Smallmouth he could handle but I couldn't catch anything other than a couple of dinks. I did manage to land a couple smaller Muskies though.

Urban Fishing

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
With a lot of our favorite fishing destinations being over an hour drive and others, still icing off from the winter, we have decided that we would make the best of what was available locally. We have made various trips to community fisheries and had decent success. The best part is that the fish we are catching are mostly Largemouth Bass. These suckers are so fun to catch! They put up a really good fight and they are easy to unhook, get a picture and release, unlike slimy trout. However there has been some Lake Trout thrown in the mix and those fish all seem to be broodstock from the hatchery. Most of their fins are worn down to nubs from their cement environment that they have been surrounded by for majority of their lives.

These are some fish I caught one night after work. I caught a lot of fish on topwater that night. It was a blast!

Here's a nice Largemouth that I landed over the weekend at Salem Pond. We also saw some monster trout get caught that day including a brood stock Lake Trout that Ryan caught.

Here are some other pics of fish caught recently at local area ponds.

Ryan was able to hook up with some Crappie.

Ryan and I managed to hook up at the same time while standing right next to eachother on the shore. His fish was a little beefier than mine but I've still got him beat in other areas.

Here are a few Largemouth Bass I was able to catch. The fish aren't really long but for the most part they are really healthy and they do put up a really good fight.

Ryan landed his fair share as well.

I recently went fishing to another location by myself and managed to pull in some decent fish.

Salem Pond Broodstockers

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
I went to Salem Pond to specifically target Largemouth. I got there and the Largemouth were not wanting to play but when the sun started to go down the trout began to jump everywhere. I decided I didn't want to go home smelling like a big fat skunk so I threw on the trusty kastmaster and landed a large Laketrout Broodstocker. It put up a decent fight. I actually thought I was snagged for a couple of seconds. Anyway, not a bad trip out to Salem Pond but I still would of rather of landed a big fat Largemouth.

Spring Fishing

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Spring has gotten off to a good start. Utah Lake has been good to us so far and the bass are getting active early. The ice has come off everywhere except for Strawberry and we're hoping for some ice off fishing there soon.

This little guy was caught at Salem Pond. I let him go to hopefully catch him again in a few years when he's much bigger.

Dan has been making many trips to Mexi Marsh to go after the white bass with hopes of catching a nice Walleye. He looks like a Mexican so he fits in there perfectly until the Mexican fisherman start to speak spanish to him and he has to look at them like he's retarded.

I've been lucky enough to pull some Large Mouth early out of Utah Lake this year. Hopefully I'll get some that are decent size in the near future.

One thing I've never seen before at Utah Lake are turtles. I've seen a few the last couple of times I've been fishing there.

Ice Fishing

Ice Fishing sure was fun this season. It was our first season out ice fishing and for all of us being a novice to this new way of fishing, I think we did alright. We got out as much as we could and learned to love this new way of fishing. A couple of days spent on Strawberry fishing in negative temperatures were well worth the trips. I had no idea how addicting ice fishing could be. I had herd all the stories and have found many people who prefer ice fishing over many other methods of fishing. I am excited for the ice to be gone but now at least we have a way to entertain our selves during the Winter months.
